Oracle last week released new technological underpinnings for JD Edwards EnterpriseOne.

The tech giant says the large number of new features in

EnterpriseOne Tools 9.1 -- including a new GUI, reporting enhancements, administration improvements, new high availability features, and a new SQL Alter Table function --

makes it the largest EnterpriseOne release since it acquired the software.

Seeing is believing and nothing impacts the way users view the applications they use like the quality and ease-of-use of its user interface. To that end, Oracle delivered a new Web browser-based GUI with Tools 9.1 that it claims will enhance the user experience and increase productivity.

For starters, Tools 9.1 is mobile. That is, Oracle claims users can use whatever device they want to access EnterpriseOne apps (provided the device supports a Web browser). iPads are supported, and Oracle has even created JD Edwards-specific gestures to speed tasks on iOS devices.

Oracle says the new drop-down menu toolbar will serve as an excellent replacement for the left-hand navigation system that EnterpriseOne previously used, while saving 25 percent of screen real-estate. The toolbar will be used to launch applications, access reports, and access personalized favorites. Users can optimize their screens by freezing or hiding columns.
