Case Study: Disaster Recovery Strategy – Realised
Global company Invacare re-platforms, introduces new technologies and implements Disaster Recovery strategy
Invacare is the global leader in the US$6 billion home medical product industry. The company conducts business in more than 80 countries around the world and has the largest distribution network in the industry.
Jireh Consulting has provided JD Edwards support to Invacare for a number of years. When Invacare recently purchased a new IBM AIX platform, Invacare asked Jireh to assist them with the migration.
The migration included an AIX OS upgrade to 6.1, a JDE tools upgrade to SP24, an Oracle database upgrade to Oracle 11g and a move to Oracle Application Server (OAS) for JDE web client delivery. The JDE system migration also included three JDE application servers for time zone support across the various regions, three Oracle Application Servers for client delivery and a couple of Windows terminal servers for good measure.
Invacare have now been live on the new platform and using the new technologies since June 2010. The business is now able to move forward with the technologies that are supported within the new tools release.
When the new hardware was being considered Jireh was asked to review the design for Invacare, which included various server partitions that would support the production and non-production JDE instances.
Jireh was also asked to design and make provision for a JDE Disaster Recovery solution in the infrastructure design. This was implemented just after go-live and was subsequently tested mid-August and shown to provide the return to operation and redundancy required by the business. This was very timely as the Christchurch earthquake struck just two weeks later.
